Senator Baldwin Introduces Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission Act

Tammy Baldwin

On June 16, 2016, Senator Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin introduced bill S. 3073, entitled the “Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission Act”. If passed, the bill will establish a commission to “ensure a suitable observance” of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave American women the right to vote nationwide. The bill has been assigned to a congressional committee, which will consider it before possibly sending it on to the House or Senate.

The 19th amendment was ratified on August 18th, 1920, so the bill is in anticipation of the upcoming centennial year 2020.
