Six of the eight Commissioners from the Congressional Commission on the American Museum of Women’s History met in Washington, D.C. last week for a series of key meetings.
On Wednesday, April 13, 2016, the Commission met with female leaders from both the Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, including the pivotal sponsors of the initial legislation designating the Commission. (To learn more about the Commission’s legislative history go here) The informative discussion lasted over an hour, and was essential in ensuring that the sponsors and the Commissioners will be on the same page when the Commission submits its final report to the President and Congress in November.
The Commission also hosted a casual dinner at the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument (formerly the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum) that Wednesday. The event was attended by numerous individuals who are partnering with the Commission in the development of the final report. They included scholars, congressional staff, members from other women’s history organizations, as well as consultants on site selection and fundraising.
