On the Horizon: Hidden Figures

This Commission will be submitting our report on an American Museum of Women’s History to Congress in early November. Our excitement over this upcoming milestone is enhanced by the other work being done to promote women’s history across the country. One such endeavor is the upcoming movie “Hidden Figures”, which will be released on January 13, 2017. This film tells the story of physicist, space scientist, and mathematician Katherine Johnson and her two colleges, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson. These women worked as “computers” at NASA in the 50’s, or as it was called then, the NACA. These brilliant women served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world. This visionary trio broke gender and racial barriers to inspire generations. Check out the trailer below!

Can’t wait till January? The book by Margot Lee Shetterly landed in bookstores on September 6th.
